Cutting Skills

My new job began this week and I'm embracing it while I laugh at the contrast a full life can offer.

My old job involved excising diseased items from humans in varying degrees, something I'd accepted as my ideal role in the medical field for the past decade. If we look at our lives as a set of building blocks that we stack together, I easily saw that the seamstress skills my mother had taught me as a valuable framework that I utilized in my surgical repitoire. Dexterity is critical right? Now at The Cheesecake Factory for just 3 days, I've been commended on my fantastic cutting technique. No one at my new job needs to know about my old job, so when the boys in my training group exclaimed at my ability to quarter the Bacon Bacon Cheeseburger with ease, all I could do is laugh. If they only knew where I'd gotten all the practice with sharp instruments. Rather than get into any truly personal details, I attributed my sandwich separation skills to lots of babysitting (true) and kept the irony to myself about the flesh that I'd actually trained on.

Thank you blog readers for offering me a place to air the real secrets in my closet
