Yes, wild boar are prevalent in Hawaii, but pet pigs participating in lawn maintenance? This may be an ideal solution to those despised blowers and weed wackers.

On my daily outings I'm frequently accosted by the noise and debris from local yard maintenance. Although I'm incredibly grateful for the beauty of our manicured neighborhood, I abhor the ruckus and the debris that tends to fly from neighbors' yards into mine, or worse, into my eyes. Last night's outing gave me a big grin, and an idea for a more renewable solution. As I was pedaling uphill, this creature caught my eye just off Diamond Head Road. It was a steep hill so I was moving pretty slowly, but when I realized it was a pig, I expected it to quickly retreat. Nope, not scared a bit. This little guy (or girl. I didn't get quite THAT close) knew his place was to chow on this plot of lawn until full. Clearly this wasn't the type of Hawaiian Boar that I hear horror stories of, so I dared to get close. These images are not zoomed. I walked right up, caught my share of photos with a grand sunset behind, and waited to see if anyone would claim the animal. I expected a man with a leash to walk up any second and take him to the next yard to continue his evening meal/lawn service. Pigs are argued to be clean and intelligent; maybe if we could get one per neighborhood it would cut down on the amount of noise, fuel, and debris pollution we tolerate in order to have a tidy yard. Just an idea from a sunset bike ride.
