Years ago I cried out against the "quaint cuteness" of B&Bs, denying the stigma of megachain hotels, embracing their sterility and uniformity. Isn't sterility what you want out of your purchased place to sleep? Once (or twice at the most) you spend a bad night in a “quaint” bed-and-breakfast, it’s right back to the Hilton. What about the place you endure your next surgery? With that, you might not get the second chance to chose a different option. Why are their so few shopping comparisons available for your knee replacement in this age of choice?

Atul Gawande MD is on the same page as I am and when he compared my new employer to my old one, I signed up to follow that man on twitter. He's onto something.

He makes the comparison between healthcare and The Cheesecake factory in his 2012 article in the New Yorker, which grabbed my attention not because of my investment in the health care industry (my entire adult life) but because I was searching for data (aka dirt) on my new employer. How ironic that the desparation to avoid hospital madness may give me more valuable training than trudging 6 more months through a "standard" 21st century health care facility.

Could healthcare take a lesson from The Cheesecake Factory?
